Checkerboard tiles do add interest to bland linoleum floors. Many patterns are placed throughout the room. The industrial photographer in me came out as I tried to feature the beams, the ductwork, the sound panels, and the stairway. It has gotten to be a trend in areas prone to earthquakes, as we are here in the Pacific Northwest, to leave the metal girders exposed. I like this trend, personally, because I like to imagine that I can feel the strength of the steel beams protecting me and the building and all that’s in it.
