An architectural photographer is often asked to get this or that shot. A client may say he thinks an overall view from the roof will look good. Now what about roof access? Even when the client is the property owner and there is easy access to the roof, the logistics can be a problem. In this photo the roof access was a vertical ladder attached to the wall. My camera case is seventy pounds. I climbed the ladder holding my tripod and a rope, then lifted my gear hand over hand to the second story roof.
