It is desirable in architectural photography to obtain a good view, and often an elevated view, when portraying a tall building. Yes, it is true that when shooting the high end pictures we architectural photographers will use the view camera, with all of its perspective enhancing swings and tilts. Often we will still need more height than we can get by shifting the camera’s front element. Then is when we seek the bird’s perch, as in this roof top shot of downtown Portland, Oregon.
